MSM, Politicians Fail to Blame Gun for Fresno, San Bernardino School Shootings

Many have tried, but it is impossible to make a revolver look as scary as one of the mainstream media's "assault weapons," especially when the clipazine is facing the wrong way.

While the mainstream media spent Easter weekend keeping us updated with the latest details of the multi-state manhunt for the so-called “Facebook Killer,” aka Steve Stephens, that same mainstream media gave shorter-than-normal shrift to a pair of recent, multiple-fatality shootings in California.

Typically, when more than one non-gang-member Californian dies from gunfire, it becomes a massive news story as the mainstream media first sensationalizes the event and then politicians enter the fray to propose new laws, mainly restrictions on firearms, which would supposedly prevent the next such tragedy. If a school serves as the setting for such an attack, the media coverage usually increases at least two-fold in terms of volume and intensity. Yet, the mainstream media outrage at “Black Jesus’” shooting spree this past Tuesday and the shooting at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, California last Monday that left two dead plus the gunman, has been oddly muted.

For those who might have missed the nuts-and-bolts of the stories because they weren’t receiving ongoing MSM coverage; on Monday, April 10, Cedric Anderson entered the school, walked casually into the classroom where his estranged wife, Karen Smith, worked and fired ten rounds at her, stopping to reload once. The bullets struck Smith and two students that were sitting behind her, Jonathan Martinez and Nolan Brandy. Smith and Martinez died of their wounds; Anderson turned the gun on himself.

This past Tuesday, a homeless, self-styled rapper calling himself “Black Jesus” walked up to a Pacific Gas and Electric utility van at about 10:45 a.m. and opened fire on the occupants, striking the passenger while the driver sped off to police headquarters. From there, Kori Ali Muhammed, aka “Black Jesus” would go on to fire a total of 16 rounds in less than a minute, claiming three victims, all of them white males. He shouted “allahu akbar” or “god is great” in Arabic while being taken into custody. He later told police he wanted to kill as many white people as he could.

When two self-radicalized Islamic terrorists killed 14 people in San Bernardino on Dec. 2, 2015, Senator Dianne Feinstein put out a press release that very same day demonizing firearms and the NRA while calling for more gun control legislation – meanwhile, the bodies hadn’t even been buried yet. Ten days after the school shooting in the same city, her office is deafeningly silent. Likewise, there has been no comment from it on the Fresno shooting spree.

To be fair, there are a few details that differentiate the “Black Jesus” and North Park Elementary shootings from the San Bernardino mass-shooting of 2015. First, obviously is body-count, 14 dead and 22 injured makes for a far more sensational story than two and three dead bodies do; but that alone shouldn’t account for the muted outrage. I mean, yes the MSM and politicians are as ghoulish as can be, but the degree of manufactured outrage isn’t usually linked solely to the numbers killed.

The coverage that the Fresno and North Park Elementary shootings have gotten has actually been good, solid, proper news coverage. The articles I’ve read, from NBC and Fox, among others, all report the facts as they happened; no conjecture, no speculation and most of all, no scapegoating. Two almost-mass-shootings, and no one, not even Dianne Feinstein is blaming the guns involved? What gives?

Therein lies the main problem the MSM has with these two shootings – there’s no scary black “assault weapon” gun involved. Instead, both men committed their crimes using a six-shot, .357 Magnum revolver – the exact sort of handguns police carried until the “wonder nines” took over in the late 1980s.

As more and more Americans wake up and push back against the liberal establishment’s efforts to turn them all into unarmed serfs, career gun-grabbers like Feinstein are having a harder and harder time finding an audience for their nonsense. Even still, ignorant people can still be stirred up by images of AR-15s or a Glock pistol with an extended magazine; a revolver, however? A wheelgun? Unless your name is Jerry Miculek, it’s pretty tough to make a revolver seem scary to most people. Constantly losing her anti-gun fights may have taught Feinstein that some battles just aren’t worth waging; going after revolvers is a bridge too far, even for her. Of course, the fact that the MSM isn’t sensationalizing the hell out of these stories also gives her some cover for not making a statement.

So, with no scary black “assault weapons” to blame, it’s pretty easy to understand why the MSM hasn’t gone into full-blown hype-mode over these stories – it doesn’t fit their narrative, so it doesn’t suit their agenda. The North Park Elementary shooting appears to have been a tragic matter of marital strife turned deadly and two young people were horrifically caught up in it. There’s just not much political hay to make there. The Fresno shooting featured a person of color who was intent on killing “white devils,” so, this most certainly doesn’t fit the mainstream media’s narrative; were the colors reversed, news outlets from CNN to Mother Jones would be decrying it as example of “Trump’s America.”
